''We stand today at the threshold of a great event both in the life of the United Nations and in the life of mankind.' Eleanor Roosevelt spoke these famous words when she presented the Universal Declaration for Human Rights to the United Nations on December 10, 1948 . This First Lady of the World was not only important voor human rights and social justice, but she also inspired many other women to follow in her footsteps.

Now, seventy years later, as we face once again worldwide challenges such as the pressure on liberal democracy and the threats to our planet, we consult a new generation of infuential women. What alternatives do they have to offer? What makes them fight for a better world so passionately?  We look to the future with the motto 'women serve their country, men their ego'.

The world according to: Mary Robinson, Naomi Klein, Agnes Heller, Elif Shafak, Leila Ahmed, Agnes Abuom, Chung Hyun Kyung, Judith Butler, Tawakkol Karman, Isabel Allende and Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie.
