This documentary investigates the economic, social and cultural power of today’s Germany
Family businesses are not always ruled by quarterly figures. People still believe in solid professional training and lifetime employment within the same company. Last year nuclear energy was abandoned by the government because the country is already running on sustainable energy for over 20%. Solar or wind energy are no longer small-scale initiatives. Complete villages and towns operate wind turbines, not just because they are sustainable, but because they make money. That money goes to Volkswagen in Dresden, where every German will pick up a car from one of the glass towers, the temple of the German car industry, at least once in his life. And then there is Das Wald, the forest, the primeval ground of the German people, the place where it all began. All these elements have contributed to the recent economic success of our eastern neighbours, which is why all of Europe is now looking at Germany for answers.
